Longing
P O S T´s essay is emerging.
The first assignment you get as an architecture student at Chalmers School of Architecture is to answer the question "What is architecture to you?" After four years in architecture school we are now facing our last assignment and ask ourselves the same question again "What is architecture to us?"
With this question as a starting point we sat down and had a first discussion about master thesis subject and content. We discussed our view and perception of architecture, the structure of the education and previous projects that we had done on our own or together at Chalmers.
We also talked about what fascinates us, not only in architecture but also in music, arts, phenomenon, books etc. To the discussion both of us brought pictures to illustrate what move us in those topics. It appeared that in some cases we had brought the same pictures and in all the pictures we had brought, there was a common thread. All objects in the pictures had the same feeling and emotion. At first we found it difficult to describe what this could be. But the more we talked about it the more visible a common thread became. The images expressed a longing. A longing to get away and a longing for the origin.
