rain vs fire
P O S T today planned a fire workshop to investigate how logs burn. We wanted to investigate the time it takes for a log to burn out. We also wanted to explore the other qualities of firewood. The sound, the smell, the warmth and the visual impact that a fire can give. But the rain stopped us. To be continued.

Slipping through my fingers workshop

P O S T wanted to explore and work with a ephemeral material to see how a material like this preform and react. During short glints of time beautiful space and landscapes appeared before they sagged down and dropped away. We found that in this material it was easy to create emotional and sensual spaces. The material could also be cut into more stringent forms.

Icehotel Jukkasjärvi

P O S T now have a location for the pavilion. It will be placed at the Swedish Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi in the north of Sweden. The pavilion will be built by us in the beginning of January 2011. It will be cold and dark but truly beautiful and we are very glad and thankful that the Icehotel crew want to be a part of our project.

Ephemeral mystique

P O S T have wandered around and studied transient and ephemeral phenomena in nature. This is some of the things we found and we are overwhelmed how beautiful nature can project it self in both structure and form creating space and architectonic qualities. Like the mist on a lake, the form a stone dropped in water creates, a sand dune shaped by water and wind and the structure of foam in a creek.

As we have already discussed we are truly fascinated about ephemeral architecture. The building is living in the moment and you get a sense of presence. You also appreciate it more because you know it soon will be gone.

Ephemeral buildings live on in your memory. Memories tend to be distorted and are constantly changing. The memory of the same building will look different in different peoples minds. The same memory also changes over time. This make the feeling and the experience of an ephemeral building ever changing. It´s your mind and your imagination that keep the buildings alive creating a mystique in this type of architecture.

Back from the forest

P O S T are back from the forest where we have read about the essential values and atmospheres of architecture. We read and discussed different types of elements that affect the experience and atmosphere of a building. Different factors like; light, sound, climate, materials, form, surrounding environments and tactile elements.

Another crucial factor is the emotions a building evokes. This is connected to your emotional state of the day, your memories, your expectations and your knowledge about the building. These are questions we will work with both theoretical and practical in our project.

On our forest trip we also came close to the forestry and the real handicraft of wood which we find very interesting and exciting.
